Floral Friday – Southern Magnolia

Southern Magnolia

This beautiful flower was growing on a tree in my yard… along with more! The Southern Magnolia is a beautiful sturdy white flower, about 6-8 inches in diameter.  The large, showy, lemon citronella-scented flowers are white, up to 30 cm (12 in) across and fragrant, with six to 12 petals with a waxy texture, emerging from the tips of twigs on mature trees in late spring. Southern magnolias are native to the Southeastern United States, from southeast Virginia south to central Florida, It blooms in South Carolina in May.
