Adventure on Bolero

“This week, share a photo that says “adventure.” It could be an image of someone setting off on an epic journey, a photo you took on an adventure of your own, or something more metaphoric that represents a personal or psychological adventure. We’re excited to see where you’ll take us!”

Nothing says adventure to me like sailing yachts!  I was thrilled to have the opportunity to sail on Bolero, a 73 ft. classic wooden yacht.  Not only was it fabulous to sail on this sleek vessel, but her history is fascinating.

BOLERO is known on both sides of the Atlantic as a superb ocean racer. She was designed by Sparkman and Stephens, built  in 1949 and served as the New York Yacht Club’s Flagship vessel in the 1950’s. She has cruised and raced all over the world, and is known to be fast, sea kindly and handsome.  Her owner, Ed Kane, has invested in Bolero’s restoration and maintenance, keeping this jewel in top sailing form.

Hearing her adventures makes me imagine those trans-Atlantic trips, Bermuda races and cruises.  What must it have been like to be aboard Bolero in good weather and in bad?
